Central North Island Report, August 2021
Entries are now closed for Waiclay. The exhibition opens on November 12th at Waikato Museum. Our 2022 Touring Potter Programme focusing on large scale sculpture with Carla Ruka is scheduled for Waikato in February next year. These are three day workshops held across three consecutive weeks. Public talks will also be included in these visits. This programme will be confirmed in November.

KINK is a group exhibition coming up at Thistle Hall that plays with erotica in a variety of mediums from clay to ink and the in-between. The opening on Tuesday 21st includes a pop up art market with more KINK pieces from @broken.nz. The exhibition runs until the 26th. Some regional news from our clubs: Hakatere Ceramics and Pottery Inc We, like the rest of NZ, have been inundated with requests for pottery lessons. Typically it’s younger mums who seem to be most interested and are more likely to become a member after lessons. Our 2022 Touring Potter Programme focusing on large scale sculpture with Carla Ruka is scheduled for Northland in April/May next year. Auckland is still in level 4 lockdown, so many potters are unable to access their studios. Inventive solutions are being found with front porches and kitchen tables becoming makeshift work stations and DIY wedging tables and drying cupboards being created.
