AUCKLAND Tāmaki Makaurau update – November/December 2024

Mirror Mirror .2
7 Nov – 5 Dec
Studio One Toi Tü

“Mirror Mirror 0.2” is an exploration of the dark shadows that accompany us, charmingly dressed yet
whispering sparkling little lies. These shadows have long sat on my shoulders, reflecting the social
expectations and misunderstandings that have shaped my sense of self. Through this series, I
confront the feelings of alienation in a world of norms—feeling weird, wrong, not good enough, sinful.
These are the burdens society places upon us when we fail to conform, and the guilt and shame that
follow when we fall short of its standards. This work is born from my personal journey of
misinterpreting my reality, of not fitting into a box, and believing I was a disappointment.
But with time, I have come to understand the power in being different, strange, weird—existing
outside the bounds of what is considered “normal.
” I now embrace these parts of myself that were
once hidden, recognising their strength.
