Canterbury & West Coast updates July/Aug 2025
Mount Pleasant Pottery Group recently held their annual pottery exhibition, which for the past three years has been organised over Matariki weekend. This event is the largest in our calendar requiring multiple club members to work hard behind the scenes in the lead up to the exhibition. This year our guest exhibitor was Jane McCulla, whose flotilla of ships took center stage in the gallery. Jane unfortunately was away on the opening evening but held a successful workshop, which was well attended, prior to the event. The exhibition opened on Friday evening where club members, sponsors, close friends and family attended the event to celebrate the success of the club. Several prizes were awarded which were generously provided by our sponsors, including Nelson Pottery Supplies, Bot Pots and Ruff Shuffler Ceramics. Merit 1 was awarded to Lesley Towart for her expressive face sculptures, Merit 2 went to Lisbeth Hansen for her large textured bowl and vases and Merit 3 went to Jen Seymore who created mixed media forms combining natural materials with ceramics. The Selectors Choice Award went to Dot Moulton for her grouping of rounded vessels which were strikingly decorated. There was a wide range of work and styles on show this year highlighting the talent amongst our resilient potting community in Ōtautahi Christchurch. The exhibition was open over two weekends during which members of the public could come and enjoy the work on display.
