Central North Island news – May/June 2024

Matilda here from Driving Creek Pottery. As the days continue to get shorter, the Driving Creek trains keep on chugging and the pugmill keeps on pugging. We’ve had potters from all around the country visit to take part in our new intensive courses. It’s been a pleasure to get to meet some of you.
We’ve just released a fresh batch of dates for the courses this year. Please forward this on to your club members and print out one of the attached posters for your clubrooms. 
The Five Day Intensive Throwing Course
This course is aimed at beginner and intermediate throwers. It cover the basics and take students through a range of different forms, as well as pulling handles and trimming.

The Five Day Production Throwing Course 
This course is aimed at more experienced throwers who are looking to increase their speed, accuracy, efficiency and repetition of forms. Callum Trudgeon will be tutoring the production courses. Callum was trained and worked in production for many years at the Leach Pottery in St. Ives.

The Five Day Fundamentals of Glaze Chemistry Course
This course is taught by guest glaze-nerd, Ronald Boersen. It is intended for potters who want to start mixing their own glazes and for those who already have some basic knowledge and experience. He will explain the fundamentals of how glazes (cone 6-10) work and then put theory into practice by exploring different testing methods and reviewing the fired results.
