Manawa Tea Bowls | Fundraiser Auction
Each tea bowl in this collection was woodfired in our QAC Manawa kiln under the Matariki night sky this year — capturing the rich textures, glazes, and surfaces that only flame and time can create. From precisely thrown forms to beautifully unpredictable hand-built shapes, each piece tells a story — many embracing the wabi-sabi aesthetic, which celebrates imperfection, impermanence, and the quiet beauty found in the natural spirit of wood-firing.
Own a piece from the latest Manawa Matariki wood-firing. This auction supports the long-term care of the Quarry Arts Centre’s community kilns, with 50% of proceeds going to kiln maintenance and 50% directly supporting the contributing artists. Trademe auction opens: Friday 11 July, 6pm
Trademe Auction closes: Monday 21 July, 8pm
Exhibition opening: Yvonne Rust Gallery | 11–25 July

Whangarei based Northland Diploma Students
Alternative firing day with the Whangarei Diploma in Ceramics students at Fire and Earth Studios.
A fantastic day of exploring alternative firing and finishing techniques of some of the works created over the first half of the year. Starting out with building a pit kiln, packing, and firing. We then moved on to 4 Raku firings, going through a number of finishes such as Naked Raku—pop-off slip and carbonizing—followed by crackle, luster, and copper matte.
Everyone came with plenty of work, wonderful energy, and some lovely nibbles and treats. The results were great, and there was lots of sharing of glaze/slip recipes that were used.
