Welcome Callum!

We are very happy to announce Driving Creek Production Potter Callum Trudgeon has joined Ceramics New Zealand as a Special Advisor/Driving Creek Potteries Representative.ย  Callum brings a great breadth of experience to Council and we are super stoked to have him at part of the team, and strengthen our relationship with Driving Creek.ย

About Callum:

I started pottery in 2014 when I became the first fully trained apprentice at the Leach Pottery in St Ives since it reopened as a charitable trust in 2008. I trained and work there as a production potter for eight years. Early in my career I found myself drawn to wood fired pottery. In 2018 I took a one year sabbatical from the Leach specifically to learn about wood firing. I spent three months in Bizen, Japan with potter Kazuya Ishida making British style standard ware using the local materials and firing techniques. Then I spent seven months at Guldagergaard international ceramic research centre, Denmark, on their Young Wood Fire Artist in Residence programme. In December 2022 I moved to the Coromandel to set up a production pottery at Driving Creek.
