Wellington/Western Districts Regional Report, May 2021
Karla Marie joins the Ceramics NZ Council as the newly appointed Regional Council Member for Wellington.
Iโm incredibly excited to be taking over the role of Wellington/Western districts RCM (regional council member), I will know some of you from my time at WPA and I’m looking forward to getting to know you all as your regional representative.
A little about me, Iโve just opened a new small boutique ceramics teaching space on Dixon street in Welly city inside a beautiful store called Ninjaflower. I have three wheels, beautiful hand building space, a glaze room and a brand new Olympic kiln that warmed up for its first test fire last night. At Ninjaflower we have a larger space downstairs where I’ll be hosting workshops for 12-24 people with plans to have a variety of local and travelling potters to share their skills. *please sing out if you or a fellow potter may be keen to teach a workshop.
I’m always up for a good olโ chat about pots so if you’re in town please send me an email and if time permits Iโd love to have you over for a studio visit.
I look forward to connecting with each of the clubs and individual members in our region and finding out all about whatโs happening from month to month, and I will be planning some in person visits to your areas.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any news, exhibitions or events you would like me to report or promote for your region. These can be added to our monthly newsletters and our new website events calendar. We would also love to receive any community/club news and articles that we can include in our news segment. If you would like to submit any content please send it through to me @karlamarie_ceramics on instagram or email pottery@karlamarie.nz or to secretaryceramicsnz@gmail.com.
There are a couple of exhibitions coming up that are worth a visit:
NZ Academy of Fine Arts
3-15 June, opening Thursday 3rd June at 5pm.
Not to be missed, this well-known mix of Kapiti and Wellington potters will display their work for the first time as a group at the academy galleries on the waterfront this month.
